Nationally Listed Buildings of Historic Interest
These are listed buildings in King's Norton, or listed buildings which have apparently been in King's Norton in the past. Different sources sometimes give different street and/or district addresses to these buildings! (Locally-listed buildings are noted at the end of this page).
This page was developed from 2 main sources:
- Images of England, "a groundbreaking heritage initiative run by the National Monuments Record, the public archive of English Heritage", and
- Birmingham City Council, Schedule of Nationally Listed Buildings of Historic Interest, (PDF file)
The Images of England web site is very useful for two different reasons. First, it often has an image of the building, and sometimes such images appear to be the only ones easily available on the web. (It is noted below where there was an image at the last check). Second, it provides a formal description for each building, extracted from the "List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest", and this appears to be the most readily-available such extract on the web. (Whether it is accurate is another matter). The "IoE number" can be used to access all of this material as an "advanced search" after registering with the Images of England web site, which is well worth doing. (The description is available even where there is no image).
- Department of Culture, Media and Sport - Listing
- English Heritage - What Does Listing Mean?
- English Heritage - Getting a Building Considered
- Department of Culture, Media and Sport - Scheduled Ancient Monuments
The addresses below include OS Landranger references. Where known, these are 6-digit references, but the English Heritage listing appears typically to use 2-digit references! In some cases, this is refined with a quadrant, so "NW" is in the north west quadrant of the square referenced, etc. These references can be converted to full OS "6-digit, 6-digit" coordinates if needed. "SP abcdef" becomes "4abc00,2def00", "SP abcd" becomes "4ab000,2cd000", etc.
